Chapter Philanthropy

At the local level, Eta Lambda is very involved. We support various events held on campus at Loyola that are put on by both Greek and non-Greek organizations such as Relay for Life, Riley Dance Marathon, Derby Days, the Breast Cancer Walk, and many others.

One event we have previously held is called Kappa Carnival, we have carnival food, games and a kickball tournament. Everyone in the community is invited to join, and other organizations sponsor and decorate different golf holes. The proceeds go to a different local charity every year.

Reading Is Fundamental- National Philanthropy:

We support our national philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental, through many events throughout the year. Eta Lambda, as well as Kappas from a nearby university, some members of local fraternities, and KKG alumnae, put on this event at a local, low-income elementary school in the spring. Kindergarten through third-graders and their families enjoyed a two-hour event which included crafts, snacks, a bilingual story time, and a huge book distribution where every child went home with a free book and over 100 extra books were donated to the library. RIF Family Reading Night is only a few years old, but has been a huge success and was a great time for families and Kappas alike!

GIRLS Academy

We have participated in a new event for Kappa Kappa Gamma - GIRLS Academy - for the past few years in the fall! GIRLS Academy is an acronym that stands for: Girls, Inspiring, Respect, Leadership and Service. Created by Kappa Headquarters, this fun-filled weekend created for underprivileged middle schoolers seeks to show them positive role models through collegiate role models, all while promoting confidence, friendship, leadership and self-love. The women of Eta Lambda spend the weekend at a local middle school, divided into small groups to help discuss the issues facing young girls and women in society today. It's an incredibly powerful weekend that promotes the values of Kappa.

Kappa Cares

Eta Lambda values service and philanthropy, as we attend a Jesuit university with a commitment to bettering the lives of others. Eta Lambda has worked diligently to create a unique service program that features a monthly cause that is near and dear to one of our sister's hearts. We fundraise, raise awareness and dedicate our time that month to that specific cause. Examples of organizations that Kappa Cares has supported include: Autism Awareness, Nellie's Catwalk for Kids, sending care packages to the troops, supporting one of our sister's ill family members, and Watsi, just to name a few. We open the floor for discussion on what organization/cause we want Kappa to focus on that month, and then create a strategic goal plan for how we can best serve that cause.

Kappapalooza

This year Eta Lambda decided to stick with Kappapalooza! As we are the only Chicago based Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapter we wanted to dedicate our philanthropy to our city, hence the name. We then wanted to continue the “palooza” of events and make it a week of philanthropic fun raising money for Reading is Fundamental. We tabled throughout the week and held different fundraisers. On Wednesday night, Eta Lambda hosted Kappa Kanes and Singo. We had all you could eat Cane's Chicken and played Singo throughout the night. All our sisters and guests had so much fun and we are all looking forward to next fall’s Kappapalooza!
